Mongol Rally Day 48

Unknown River Crossing (MGL)- Khovd (MGL)- All Night Drive (MGL)

August 30, 2014

Last night we camped out by the river next to cow dungs, very natural feeling hahaha!

When we got to the river late in the evening we thought we might be able to cross it, but weren’t sure.  We we awoke and saw serval UAZ-452 blaze through the river but they actually had to use their snorkel on their car.  We knew Takhi would ride to low and had to find another way.  It was a very pretty morning. First a heard of Yaks came by, and the 30 minutes later a heard of cows.

This river was mid-thigh deep, we didn’t think we can cross it with our small low clearance car. We wound around the river and eventually found another way to cross the river.

Then we finally arrived in the city of Khovd.

We filled our gas and take some cash from ATM. Then we hit the road again.

We were so happy to see a tarmac paved road! After involuntarily massaging our buttocks for the last 2 days it was such a relief! It’s like heaven! But it only last a few miles…

We stopped by a local restaurant in a small truck stop. It is funny we bought all those instant noodles and canned food, and we ended up eating at local places the most. To be honest, sometimes the cost of eating at local places is cheaper than buying packaged camping food.

Every time we travelled to remote small town like this always makes me wonder what people do here.

Then we took the road again, this time we took turned and drove all night. We are on a time crunch we have to get back and run our business and we are already 2 days late.

These ridges are literally pain in the butt! They are endless nightmares!

By this time our suspension had partially cracked, but we didn’t know it.
