Altai Mountains (RUS)- Somewhere in Bayan-Ölgii aimag (MGL)
August 28, 2014
It was beautiful camping in Altai Mountains next to cow dungs. The view of the Katun river is spectacular.
The M-52 followed the Katun river and later on wind into a huge plateau. Altai Republic is so serene. It reminds Graham of the wilderness in Seattle, Washington.
We stopped by a town called Onguday and pick up some lunch and camping food and water for the Mongolia legs of expedition.
Then we hit the road again.
Pristine Ukok Plateau grassland where the Siberian Ice Maiden mummy was discovered. M-52 highway runs through the steppe between two different snowcap mountain ranges Chuyskie Belki (SW) and Kuraysky (NE).
Altai horses, know for their strong cardiovascular, respiratory, muscular and skeletal systems for the harsh climate.
At Kosh-Agach, one of the last towns until we hit Mongolia border, we get our gas and jerry cans filled.
Then we arrived at the Russia/ Mongolia border. (continue to part 2)
Never thought I’d get to visit western Siberia, so this was a real treat. Amazing scenery in many countries, but this place was very special.
