July 24, 2014

The stay at Formula Pension is great, super clean room and bathroom, firm beds and very friendly and very beautiful waitstaff. And we like the view of the old Soviet-era garages.

After a wonderful breakfast we drove to Zámok Bojnice. We don’t know that we have to take a 2 hours tour in order to visit the castle. The deer sigil and coat of arms remind us of in Renly Baratheon in Games of Throne. The castle have a lot of beautiful walnut and pine woodcuts. Words cannot express enough here are some pictures.

Then we drive to the Slovak Paradise National Park. The drive is longer than we expected since it’s all winding mountain roads. Without much research we aimed for the old coal mining town called Dobsina because of its close proximity to Dobšinská Ice Cave. When we arrive we drove into a lake side (reservoir) village called Dedinky but no penzion was available. We drove into Dobsina and ended up in the interesting Roma side of town. Not able to find a place to stay we finally arrive at a small village called Stratena. We paid 60 Euros for two rooms at Safran Penzion. So far all the penzion stay are excellent. The only downside is usually they don’t take credit card so make sure you have enough local currency. We arrived at 8pm and the restaurant is closing, and they are super nice to make us the only thing available on the menu: fried cheese toast and French fries.

After the dinner we have a “meeting” about our trip at Graham ‘s room, drinking a wide selections of local beer from Kaufland and random gas stations. Below is Safran Penzion the morning after.
