Somewhere before Saryozek (KAZ)- Taskesken (KAZ)- Ayagoz (KAZ)- Qalbatau (KAZ)- Somewhere around Novotaubinka (KAZ)
August 24, 2014
Today is a tough day. This section of Kazakhstan is all desert and had tons of gigantic potholes. We got a flat tire and the cap that protect our exhaust pipe got loose. All in all, a day of fixing the car.
We woke up around 7am and start driving. Not long after that we realized something is loose underneath the car. We found out that it was the exhaust pipe metal cap that got loose and we attempted to duct taped it back.
Fortunately at a local gas station we found this elevated trench. Duct tape came in super handy!
Then we kept driving until we hit a roadside truck stop and have our “brunch”.
When we got in we saw other truckers eating some soupy stewy dish. we all point and that and get one each. It’s a delicious lamb noodle soup.
After we ate we found out that we got a flat tire. This time Young changed the tire.
Kazakhstan is gigantic! With a spare tire we drove slow trying to reach the next tire repairing shop.
Finally thanks to a old Gentleman at a gas station we arrived at the town of Taskesken and got our tire fixed, for a whopping $3 USD.
We gave the guy a FUNraiser T-shirt to say Thank You. It’s good karma for the car!
Then we hit the road again. It is super hot and the road seems to be infinitely extended and melting at the same time.
We drove until dark and ended up camp out next to some sort of train station/ people’s house. We have no idea we were so close to them it was pitch black around 10pm when we setup our tent. Alas, we have a great sleep. Below is the picture taken the morning after.
